If we are going to build a sour gas boiler we are going to need a lot more ceramic. That requires us to get our hands on a lot more filtration material. We have 170 tons of sand but we need way more material than that. Time to go regolith harvesting.

~ 02:00 – How convenient that I made myself a cold oxygen/clay factory for producing ceramic, fed by a cool slush geyser. Basically in its own room, vaccuumed out during inactive period, drips down to the offgas chamber, 3 layers of 18 deoderizers with clay/sand handled by automation. Deoderizers are on a mesh tile with crude oil, below that is the airflor tile, below that is the 1 tile high channel for pwater to offgas. The deoderizers can grab past the crude oil, and only oxygen is in the upper chamber. Incidentally, the cold oxygen is great making oxylite for rockets and keeps inside cool when bringing in hotter materials. You'll probably have a completely different method though, I'll wait to see what it is.
Is there a viable way to make refined carbon with heat from a volcano? Stopping it forming a tile is the block that I don't know how to get around. It needs to not form the block so 50% isn't lost. The mesh tile trick wouldn't work as it isn't liquid.
I love that method of taming a volcano for. Way easier than other methods, even if it's not quite as efficient.
Why not use a sublimation station? Wouldn't that be less manual work?

It is literally this simple
In terms of ambition, logistics, engineering, and CPU melting, this would seem to be FJ's most ambitious ONI series yet.
With your deodorizer setup, you could try ranching dense pufts by it, and get a ton of oxylite for rocket use.
In my current save I basically have a massive sublimation area setup which just maintains 1000kg pwater over a few wide strips, and it all gets pumped into a wall of deodorizers and a puft ranch.
Let’s put a dupe on an unused planetoid and get them to “manage” a colony with occasional ration shipments. And turn off alerts.
Not sure how much more regolith you're going to need but you could really automate a lot of that planet. Robominers/sweepers are the obvious start but you can use solid rocket port loaders to put the material into a rocket and then inside the capsule use conveyor loader fittings to pull the regolith right out of storage and dump it into an infinite storage vacuum in your capsule. I haven't tried that recently but you could probably use multiple fittings to speed things up. I did this once ages ago and it worked out well
Francis John: My colony is too messy, lets's make a new planetoid. 🙂
Talking about excessive builds you can turn the clay into ceramic directly using the maga from the volcano
I love how crazy that sour gas boiler is. This oil planet is going to look insane when it is done
Hallelujah hallelujah for pliers mod
I guess you've already sorted out your rocket exhaust issue. I always wondered if it would be better to use the electronic gates and use automation so that when rockets aren't landing or taking off the doors would be fully open and not blocking anything. I guess though if steel doors are melting that won't work. That said part of me wants to see if it would be possible to do that, but use steel radiant pipes with liquid aluminum as a "coolant" to extract heat from the doors before they melt.
Best way to explain ONI:
4.5 millions calories but still actively working on making food production more efficient. I love it.
Relay station rockets? Is there anything in there that can overheat? Will we have steam turbines inside the rockets?
Nice video!!! Hope you soon put the tutorial nuggets online for the rocket interior 😀
You should make your new home planet (if you decide to change) into a luxury home. As in… Plastic bed, lots of recreation thingies. Few parks… And showers !
Note to self, use volcano for sauna production brick.
What happens if the pilots chair melts mid flight or just before ordering it to travel with no dupes on board?
ain't nothing wrong with pliers mod. I still use get full resource from mined tile. which I kinda want to turn off cause sweeping becomes a pain on the arse with so much stiff around. also use dupe edit. been practicing getting in all achievements and my early game speed flawless. and even with rerolli g and editing the best dupes they still try to kill themselves every cycle!! some times even gene editing doesn't help some.
To extend the series; since it has always brought you best views.
1) all recreation buildings. Not just plonked down but setup nicely preferably in separate rooms or grouped up in correct setting.
2) zoo on 1 of the planets with either all or most animals.
3) every dupe has a bedroom and bathroom/dining. Could call it a home. This creates a ton of problems!! Ad suits to the mix for a real challenge…
That's how i tend to build bases after the practical crap is setup. Either oni or rimworld. My pawns love me, slaves not so much…
Love the big projects keep em coming.
just slap atmo sensor automation on that clay production room should keep it from over pressuring with out have to micro manage it.
That conveyor meter is really good, I normally use a timer hooked up to a conveyor chute on my volcano tamers, but it looks like the conveyor meter can accomplish the same thing more smoothly.
Should also be good for melting ice.
Francis, what is your schedule now? 3 times a week but longer episodes?
@9:40 OMG they said the name of the thing!
Can you use the rocket exhaust to transform the clay into ceramic? Or it would form ceramic tiles?
You can exploit the range of deodorizers to continuously farm clay. Polluted water in liquid tiles, air tiles on top, water and deodorizer on air tiles. Throw this is space and you won't have excessive oxygen buildup in your base.
I believe you can avoid the need for robominers in your sourgas boiler if you put airflow tiles along that corridor instead (solid tiles won't form inside airflow tiles, after all)
I kept waiting for that lone digger on the regolith planet to get entombed. You are lucky sometimes!
woohoo! finally the pliers! Its been giving me anxiety that you haven't been using it. 🙂
For fuck sake, take a breath!
Can't the water be off-gassed any other way that doesn't require you to go in there anymore? I am thinking a layer of pwater on the bottom with a hydro sensor and liquid vent. Whenever you are below 900kg, add more pwater.
Edit: Depending on when the vent over pressurizes, the sensor might not even be needed.
Love how we just went from near-death to… this! It's incredible lol
a tout le monde
Francis John Sir, how in the world do you get the rad pills to the rocket? My dupes keep eating them every time I queue them up.
the Plyers mod should just be a feature…
Okay….
I have played ONI for hours and hours (got me through "phase A" of covid!)…
But I have NO idea how the dupes here were able to construct/deconstruct mechanical doors that were below a row of refined carbon tiles….from above the tiles?!…
I'm def gonna try this out today…..
It's not the diagonal trick…so how are they magically building/decon through "natural" tiles?…
Again thank Francis John..
Always fun and informative !
YOU'RE IRISH?!?!! FUCK YEAH!!!!
Have they changed the way the magma/igenus rock interaction occurs in a Mesh tile? Can't for the life of me get this to work.
