A cargo ship slammed into Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge just before 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, sending most of the span into the river below. Officials say two people have been pulled from the water so far. CBS News’ Nicole Sganga and Caitlin Huey-Burns have more.

The baltimore bridge is falling down, falling down, falling down the Baltimore bridge is falling my first lady.
Think of the amount of time you've spent on a bridge in your whole life.
Think of the number of bridges you've crossed which have subsequently collapsed for any reason.
Scary?
Nope.
Bridges are safe.
Horrible Tragedy…it should Have Never Happened! What's going on in the minds of people who should Know What They're doing. At least one person should be responsible for this malfunction. My heart goes out to all the victims and their families. So sad.⚘️❤️

Could someone onboard the cargo ship have access to the power and turned it off? And make the ship steer into the bridge? Is it possible this could be an act of terror?
How long will it take to rebuild? Baltimoreans NEED that bridge! I think it should be rebuilt exactly as it is, to reduce design and building time (the lost bridge did, apparently, serve just fine), with the exception that the abutments would be rebuilt to withstand and impact from the biggest ships allowed into the harbor. It should be rebuilt post-haste, at whatever cost, because ultimately, the shipping company must be forced to pay for it.
If the shipping company can’t cover the cost, it should be seized and nationalized. In the future, ships should be required to carry billions of dollars worth of insurance against losses like these.

remodeling, retrofitting, with state money wasnt the way. too many permits and red tape, forms and taxes.
this way, they get a new bridge paid for by the feds and insurance. 8 lanes across, 8 tolls, double the money, and add a pedestrian and bike lane and a special mechanism to raise the bridge for passing shipping containers.
what are the odds the shipping container, moving at 10 miles an hour, slowly rams into a bridge pillar, tearing down the whole bridge.

Aren't driven pile caissons supposed to protect bridge structures? Was there any, were they adequate, and/or did they simply fail?
I thought tugboats are suppose to guide containerships back out to sea. Here in Alabama, mobile port authority does this for bigger ships. Sorry for the people affected
