'Has to be judged in context': Chris Kenny breaks down news of power price reductions

Sky News host Chris Kenny has broken down the news that power prices are on the way down for some, saying the Albanese government thinks it’s “onto a winner”.

“The energy market operator has recommended small increases in some markets, but mainly some small reductions in retail power bills,” Mr Kenny said.

“Bowen seemed to misinterpret how good this news really was.

“To understand how pathetic this looks, you’d first have to know how much your power bill was, you’d first have to feel the financial pinch when that bill goes up, and you’d have to remember one of Labor’s central election promises.

“If you’re lucky enough to get this, it has to be judged in context – and that context firstly is Labor’s promise to cut prices by $275 a year.”

  1. The Defence Minister doesn't sound very convincing. The reactors won't power cities? He is joking. Some of Russia's coastal cities couldn't produce enough electrical power in the past. They parked a nuke sub at the port and got by on that. If you don't believe me, David Adams (a good Australian photographic journalist) mentioned it in one of his documentaries Journeys to the Ends of the Earth.

  2. What an insolent, insulting arrogant response! The truth is that whenever Labor meddle in the market on anything, and this includes the state Labor governments, they screw it up bigtime at the cost of the taxpayer whose standard of living is now seriously eroded by Labor an it just keeps getting worse.

  3. My partner is an electrical contracto, you need 3 phase wiring to put a car charger in,theres other things like going through concrete, length of cables the list is long, you might be looking at $10,000 to get it up and running, also dont count on using extra appliances like dishwashers etc at the same time, when i use a dryer in winter very occasionally I notice an increase imagine what charging a car would add 🤔

  4. Bowen is so uneducated he can't even pronounce Nuclear (new-clear) correctly , George W Bush started "Nucular". Someone should set Bowen straight and correct him, but I don't think he could actually do it anyway and say it correctly because of his lack of intelligence.

  5. At least former President Barack Obama was honest enough to say that his energy plan ie getting rid of fossil fuels would make energy prices skyrocket. This Marxist regime we’re stuck with here are full of bs. Meanwhile countries such as Germany are restarting their closed coal power plants.

  6. Yeah, government regulation and micro control of every market, means of production, distribution and consumption, is called communism and will end in disaster for the whole economy.

  7. My friend in Tennessee just old me he pays .181 cents AUD per kWh. Tennessee has a combination of nuclear and hydro. Meanwhile I’m paying .435 cents per kWh. South Australia has solar, wind and gas.

  8. Labor as usual is trying to hide the facts, releasing the report would show a huge increase in power prices if they factor in the cost of the new transmission lines, cost of the transmission currently takes up 40% of the bill so if they factor in adding more transmission plus land costs it will show how baseless there 'cheapest' energy is. Glad more people are opening there eyes to the ALP lies. Adding nuclear is not only a viable option but an essential one if Australia wants to reduce power costs and save the economy. BoBo and his cohorts are scared on nuclear because they have invested heavily into it and think they going to make a fortune off the taxpayer. They dont care about the every day aussie who is batting out there.

  9. Thanks for exposing these clowns mate. Let’s hope more Australians begin to see these climate cultists for what they are and that if allowed to continue they will spiral our country into an abyss of poverty. Put Labor and the Greens last. 😎👍👊🇦🇺

  10. It must be nice to be a pensioner, getting free money from the taxpayer for doing absolutely nothing, and worrying/complaining about a couple of hundred $ a year. Have you seen mortgage payments lately?
