‘Any freight company’ will take electric trucks subsidised by Australian taxpayer

The Daily Telegraph’s Tim Blair says any freight company will take the deal of having new electric trucks subsidised by the Australian taxpayer for half the price.

“About 300 grand per truck; any kind of freight company will take that any day of the week,” he said.

“They distort the market by throwing $20 million at it.”

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced one-third of heavy vehicles operating out of Team Global Express’ Western Sydney facility will be electric.

Mr Albanese described the news as a ‘game changer’.

  1. EV's are not green. They are powered by whatever is available probably coal, they contain batteries made using non renewable lithium sourced from some of the most dangerous mines in history, and when the battery service life has passed they become hazardous waste (assuming they haven't already self destructed in a toxic uncontrollable inferno , risking lives and property). Not green by any sensible definition.

  2. I don't think anyone would argue that small to light service vehicles might be practical in the inner city's but everywhere else they are a total waste of time and money and for a government to force people to buy them with taxpayer funded subsidies looks more like extortion than anything else.

  3. I hope they factored in road repairs for ev fires. they burn for days.
And compensation for all the people who will get fired for being late for work due to ev road fires burning for days.
Or not able to get to work.
Oh Bowen you've done it again.

  4. So, The ALP supports slave labor in the Congo for rare earth metals for ev batteries.
These minerals and metals are highly polluting when being refined.
Toxic to the water table causing irreparable damage.
What about the rest of the plastic in the cars that are really really bad for the environment.
Let's face it. This is a very clever money raking scam.

  5. Interesting fact; most of Alice Springs and Tennant Creeks electricity, comes from Diesel and Gas generators! Get an EV in the red centre, and charge it at night, and you're buring much more Diesel, than if you were running a V8 Diesel vehicle! 🤣🤣🤣

  6. It wouldn't stand on its own merit so of course there has to be a sweetener at tax payers expense, if it was as good as they would have us believe there would be no need to subsidies, "simple"

  7. I can't wait to see how these electric trucks handle going up the mountain ranges like the Toowoomba range and the great dividing range and across the red centre with 2 – 3 fully loaded trailers behind them, especially in the wet season.

  9. The CEO of the trucking company just happens to be ex-Aus Post CEO Christine Holgate. I guess it's gold watches all around since their truck fleet is now funded by taxpayers! I wonder how that company was selected out of all transport providers in the country for such a large taxpayer handout. Corruption at it's finest for Labor's mates. The parent company also owns ex-PWC government advisory firm bought for $1 after their recent scandal and fire sale. Share price up 6% following announcement too. No conflicts of interest to see here I'm sure.
