Australia needs fuel efficiency standard to maintain access to ‘first world vehicle fleet’

Australia Automobile Association Managing Director Michael Bradley says Australia needs a fuel efficiency standard to maintain access to a “first world vehicle fleet”.

Mr Bradley joined Sky News Australia to discuss the push for transparency on road data as well as the new vehicle efficiency standards.

“We’ve been asking … a piece of regulation like this for some time – years,” he said.

“You basically have a choice as a country – do you want the first-world version of the cars being made? Or the third-world version?

“The technologies relating to efficiency, emissions, safety, they all come bundled, we want to be on the list of countries that get sent the best cars.”

  1. The real '1st World' left AU behind years ago. We are '1st World' in our own hubris & lunch time. Eurasia is first world but the west won't admit the truth.

  3. A lot of this nonsense comes from the EU, in an attempt to lower world living standards. Higher car prices, less demand for cars. Drive wherever and whenever you want, how dare you.
It is much more than the religious global warming beliefs of left wing politicians and their bureaucrat accomplices, it is all about government control.
Even appliances and TV's you buy from later this year must meet new EU energy efficiency standards, manufactures quietly respond by making their products less functional.

  4. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Pity we import the lowest grade fuel on earth, our current cars run fine on it but the latest European cars especially diesels won't. Sounds like another opportunity to up the Excise Fuel Tax to me.
