I personally found keeping one of the basic hero per army really good for the raise dead and vanhel's. You can make their notification go away by checking the little focus on the path checkbox under their upgrade options.
Also you get one precious metal per building when razing. So sacking the place first yields less metals.

I used to like watching RuinosInsight, but the zoomed in Camera in Battles really got to me. You got absolutely nothing out of watching the Battles, it's just pure chaos like some old movie with zoomed in fights and shaky filming.
