The Wonderhussy Report 2.28.24
A woman recently emailed me, asking if I knew anyone who could take her out to Panamint Valley to look for a missing person named Dennis Burton, whose truck had been found abandoned with an empty gas tank in Goler Wash. Cathy runs an organization called the Fowler-OβSullivan Foundation, which searches for missing hikers even after official Search and Rescue efforts have ended.Β We ended up rounding up a group of dedicated locals, and headed out to Goler Canyon to see what we could see β and to set up a base camp for the official, methodical grid search this coming weekend (3/2-3/3/24).
If you are interested in joining the searchΒ for Dennis Burton the weekend of March 2-3, 2024, the base camp will be placed at or near these GPS coordinates:35Β°52β49.1β³N 117Β°11β00.1β³W
Drive to Ballarat, CA, then turn right (south) on Wingate Road and follow that along the base of the Panamints toward Coyote Canyon Rd./ Goler Wash. until you see a big camp of several vehicles, including Unkle Gnomeβs yellow FJ and Lindaβs blue Jeep.
There is NO WATER and there are NO FACILITIES onsite β so please come prepared with EVERYTHING you need to dry camp in the wilderness. There is no cell signal, but there will probably be Starlink/ Wi-Fi for emergency comms. Be advised!

Looks like the weather is taking a nasty turn this weekend — but as far as I know, they are still planning to be out there searching. So if you do decide to go out and help, just be careful — and be prepared for some seriously nasty winds!!
It would be interesting to see the police report. How do they know he was the one who drove the truck to that location? Was the note in his hand writing? Was the pen used to write the note found? If his dementia was so bad, why was he allowed to go on this trip alone in the first place?
How far is slab city from there? Any body could hide out there. I wonder if Kenny Vetch is there.
Good luck Dennis !
Wow π²π³ redemption alas ! β€ Best wishes !!π
Can someone tell this old lady how to properly wear sunglasses? Thanks in advance

Yup something is picking his bones
I believe it's always better to know. I want to wish all involved the best of luck and cooperative weather. I'm thinking that area is still part of the national park and drones are not allowed ? What a stupid law. Thanks Sarah
Very sad
π
I love your videos and watching you guys get cheeseburgers; now I'm hungry! It is sad to hear about lost hikers.
If the conditions when he disappeared were that bad, at most he might have made it 10 miles? Anyway, good luck!
I would recommend your friend Rich join a California sheriff's search and rescue unit. Sheriff's departments manage SAR units state wide. All volunteers who really make a difference
It is an important mission to find what happened. Dementia is a miserable state. A few years ago My Dad got lost in his car a He was fortunately found driving 50 miles away… He had no idea how to get home…. We never let him drive again. We kept him home as long as my mother could help him. Then he had go to a place that could care for him.
Maybe get a metal detector to find his cell phone? I'm sorry Dennis was lost. Thanks for helping this cause everyone!
maybe he thought he could go to the ranch to see where mansons were caught. if it was a bucket list.
Really should get some drones involved in these kind of searches.
God please Bless everyone involved in this endeavor. Lord please keep everyone involved safe from harm. We give you thanks in Jesus name. Amen.
There was an old guy who had hiked all his life. The youngters knew who he was. One day he went on a hike (at age 60+). He never came back and all of the Kings helpers who are pros could not find him. It's a big area so it would have in reality taken a thousand searchers. So, what is the story? Well, I figure the old guy knew his trail was coming to an end. He decided he was going to go out in his style. Now in this case, Dennis doesn't seem to be all that prepared. So, it's a mystery where he is and what happened. If people really know something about their loved one's they should know their intent and get some solace that they did what they wanted to do. If I do something like this: please, leave me alone.
you need a drone
When you're gone, you're gone. Not the worst place to die . . zzzzzz
Sarah, we live in Vegas and want to visit DV at the peak of the wild flowers, can you recommend the timeframe to visit and maybe your favorite location? Thanks in advance, so happy to see you grow.
Best way to scout the area is using your drone
Hi S.j. long time no see- since Kelso and the big boy train- i did a lot of search and rescue and he will be within a few miles of his truck and up. He had a phone and would try to call his wife so i bet he went up the incline i saw. Then the bad news- usually a fall. So sorry to the wife and family. Good job to you and all and git er' done!!
Use drones… Check the peeks
I've done that spontanously coming home from Mammoth (detour Death Valley), it dumps you out in Ridgecrest and you resume down the 14 or 395 depending where you are headed. Its not that long of a detour, I'm sure that what he intended to do. He'd still get home in SD same day if that was his plan.
Still canβt believe Manson got a big skoolie up that road.
With all the facts you 've layed out, he wasn't as far gone to think he parked and walked to his house.
Been to that location many times. MY GUT FEELING: he may be found not far from where his truck was located …. he probably tried to go UP to a higher location so as to try to get a cell signal . Can you share the exact and precise spot where his truck was found …. ? I seem to have the strong sense that he may be located fairly close to that exact point.
The same thing happens to a lot of hikers that go into the Superstition wilderness in APACHE JUNCTION. I'm praying for the group to be able to bring closure for his wife. I'm glad you were willing to get involved Sarah. π’π’π’πππ Praying some evidence is found.
Would a camera drone be useful?
A very worthwhile endeavor. God bless.
Way too much like the "Death Valley Germans", this area is very serious. Wish you all luck.
It seems that this gentleman picked up a hitchhiker .No one takes their house key off the key ring to open the front door. This obviously reeks of foul play.Kudos for all the searchers and Wonderhussy for bringing attention to Mr.Burtons disappearance.
