Friends, on this Third Sunday of Lent, the Church asks us to look at one of the great texts in the Old Testament—namely, the Ten Commandments from the book of Exodus. Lent is a time of getting back to basics spiritually, and walking through the Ten Commandments is a great way to do it. Go back to this text in Exodus, commit the Commandments to memory if you haven’t, and use them to examine your conscience.

A condescending contempt
Got my extended throw down for the week , thanks my beautiful man … I LOVE you , God protect you in every way and everyday.🙏🏻
How about you can’t join women’s liberation without breaking almost all the Ten Commandments. Having another god, penny pinching liar, adultery, pushing your breeding into others marriage, liar, you are not godly to outsource your wife, children and crotch to others marriage, at best you are a victim of a crook. Bearing false witness, whatever the Church has done or any of the church’s supporters shoving your wife into other peoples marriage kills more than WW II, and blaming the more innocent is evil. Coveting everything you see on tv, they are whores, end of line breeding, off the begatten page, looking for a part time job selling the appearance of good. I could go on, and on. God lead us away from evil. Bishop I come from the other side of life, we used to police the sheep into God’s Laws, before the Media God’s took over N. America.
No disrespect to you, Bishop Barron, but I do have to correct you. Out of the Ten Commandments, four of them are about God while six of them are about man. You even missed out the second commandment about idols. Otherwise, this has been a good homily. I'll be sure to keep the Ten Commandments in mind when I'm next heading to confession. Many thanks! From Scotland.
Thank you Bishop Barron.
Observing the Sabbath is SUCH a blessing. Set things up through the week and on Saturday so that quiet and relaxation are possible when the sun sets on Saturday. Enjoy protected time until the sun sets on Sunday. That leaves plenty of time to ponder what has to happen on Monday.

Thanks, Bishop Barron. Teaching us the ten commandments so spiritual journey. God bless you
Me: "Would a perfect evil have the luxury of its unprovable existence?"
–
You: "Theoretically yes it would. Accordingly, its systematically deceptive operation would be unprovable as well."
–
Me: "So is it actually the case that a perfect evil does exist?"
–
You: "Honestly I don't know. None of us do. But if it does exist, all of us are in trouble, including those of us who are Christians."

If you were willing to be logical and honest.

I've heard, I think from Dennis Prager, that another interpretation of “taking the Lord's name in vain” from the original Hebrew sense is “Thou shalt not CARRY the Lord's name in vain.” In addition, someone's 'name' can also be interpreted as 'reputation' (as when you speak of someone's 'good name'). This seems, to me, to admonish against doing ungodly things in general since we are supposed to be representing God throughout the world, but ESPECIALLY when we're acting in 'official' church capacities.
IMHO, outsiders will often see the work of God in and through us, and while we ourselves are sinners, and should openly confess our failings, we must also understand, and make it understood, that these are OUR failings, not God's. If we're explicitly acting in any religious function, we must be extra aware of this.
If we truly are God's people, we are marked with, 'carrying,' His name, his reputation that others will see, with us in our lives, and we should act accordingly.
Believers are not Jews under 613 Jewish commandments of which the first ten are the most popular.
Believers are under a NEW Covenant of grace, not the under the Old Covenant of Jewish laws.
Believers have laws written on their hearts, not on tablets of stone. And, Christ’s desires become the believer’s desires. God changed the believer’s heart from one of stone to one of flesh.
All in scripture. Read Romans.
A parent who berates their child each time they disobey them. Who makes them feel guilty to control them. Who occasionally hits them when they make a mistake. That parent is obeying the ten commandments to the letter.
Is killing ever moral justified Bishop? Really?
🚨The second commandment❗️
🕊️“You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them or serve them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing mercy to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.” Exodus 20:4-6
The one you conveniently skipped, If you can’t explain this one properly, you shouldn’t even be a bishop period❗️
⚠️”Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, for you know that we who teach shall be judged with greater strictness.” James 3:1
❤
I had to listen to it twice because this sermon is so simple and amazing for personal reflection. I gonna save it for reflection every time before I go for confession. There are so many examination of conscience out on the internet and non of them have the points that Bishop Barron speaks about. So thankyou Bishop and May God bless you and Love you and you ministry
I ask my guardian angel to reveal to me my defects of character
Hola queridísimo padre Robert gracias por compartir sus enseñanzas! Bendiciones desde Mérida Yucatán
The commandments in the catechism are amazing in-depth text
I learned about The Ten Commandments when I was a child preparing for my First Holy Communion.
I don’t think is incorporated anymore in the Sacramental Program for the children anymore. The Church should continually instruct the people about this Commandments of life in a profound way like Bishop Barron is doing here.
Thank you ❤ I trust and surrender to his plan even during such challenging times.
imho the version in Deuteronomy would be better
❤
Amen
Bishop Barron, thank you for all the wisdom you have shared over the years. As you talk about social media, I reflect on the lies that are being told to us about others by Donald Trump. You talk about the thief who will suck the air out of the room so that no one else can breathe that’s Donald Trump. The people that were killed on January 6,th was due to the order by, Donald Trump. Why? To stop a fair election. Close to 1 million people died of Covid in the United States because of the mismanagement of the crisis by Donald Trump who called the Covid epidemic a democratic hoax. he commits adultery, and has been found guilty of sexual assault by a Court of Law. He has been convicted of lying about his taxes and his property values. I apply the 10 Commandments to my life because as you say it’s an examination of conscience. I am sorry for all the abortions that have been executed. and I believe that life should be cared for at all times not just before birth. Donald Trump does not care about life other than his own. He’s using this abortion issue to get the Catholic vote. That’s all he’s using us for.. I agree Bishop Barron we need to stand up for the 10 Commandments but when we have leaders and want to be leaders who are taking the people down the wrong road we have to speak up I’m 74 years old and love Jesus Christ with all my heart and it’s through the Holy Spirit that I’m talking about this because we have a country that needs the Holy Spirit to guide us and direct us. The US and the entire world not just one individual. when I stand up at Mass and I look around at all the others attending and say peace be with you, I mean it! And I mean it now. Peace be with you. 10 Commandments are rules that we all can go by to make a better world. God, please help us judge the tree by its fruit. Have a Jesus filled day!
Thank you Bishop Barron ✝️🕊️🙏🏻
But Bishop, sadly, we have never properly understood The Lords Prayer. The concepts of apology and forgiveness are in "Forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who tresspassed against us." Most people do not apologize to each other for wrongs or misunderstandings because their ego will not let them. So the non-apologizers choose to live in a 'separate' hell rather than apologize. Non-apologizers are not conscious of the fact that a sincere apology raises their spiritual vibrations. We come out of our egos when we apologize and we become stronger. Jesus ingeniously set the prayer up for deegoization to occur so the Divine Indwelling can emerge without doubt about it. We silence and lose the false part of our self through apology and forgiveness.
Thank you Bishop Barron. I loved your reflection about the ten commandments.

Hilo Bishop Barron, Gene here and I actually want to use this space to say thank you so very much for attending our Bishop Muhich's funeranl here in Rapid City! It was like surreal to meet you and shake your hand! We would love to see you come here for the installation of our next Bishop! It meant so very much to have you here, people were very happy you were here!
It’s interesting gods will, last week he challenged me to look up the most misunderstood line, in the bible so he could tell me the meaning it ended up being the homily for last week.
Yesterday I asked what is your will for me today, he told me I want to tell you the meaning of my commandments. Turns out today homily was the commandments.
I just want to add, I’m not trying to offend or disrupt. I just with blank a continuous changing of frequency in my ears and almost as my fingers moved o their own. I’ll just leave one that came.
Honor your mother and father
To think of your mother and father in only the physical world is to not understand the message of the lord, honor your parents in spite at the highest level, the mother of her people Mary, and the eternal father for with out them I would have not walked amongst you to give you these commandments. “I see you all as brothers and sisters in spirit.
Thank you ❤
I hope can PREACH ABOUT THE GENOCIDE IN GAZA…
Thankyou Bishop❤ love from India( Kerala state)
God is love I felt a gentle touch on my face as I pray really amazing❤😊 I love all priest God love you father.
Love of ones' family isn't always possible – this is truly an oversimplification. When you've been neglected, damaged, and actively harmed to the point of cruelty, it's a matter of sheer survival to separate from that cauldron and, in essence, divorce yourself from that ongoing harm/damage/danger. I trust God understands the complexities and issues when one has to do that – and suffering/bearing ones' cross as a result, is painful for the arch of ones' life. Again, God understands and loves us in those situations. I am one of them.
Thank you, bishop. Reconciling with family is difficult, but I saw that with God it is possible, He heals us and shows us the healthiest boundaries for our specific situation.
Many of us have reasons to hate our parents. When I converted I understood I had to try to forgive them and all I could do was cry and grieve. But I brought to confession all my rage and negative feel and wounds, and that was enough. True healing happens at confession through the priest and the simple act of kneeling in front of the Heavenly Father. I was finally able to look at my parents as people, not parts of me, my negative inner voices and my past, but just people, with their own story and wounds, who nevertheless tried their best with me, even though it wasn't enough to save me as a kid, I still recognized their efforts. I was able make the relationship healthier because God's grace had dealt with my own unbearable pain. And God did that for me many more times in my life. He's faithful. He can do anything and He can help us not break under the evil around us.
thank you Bishop
Thank you po Bp.
Thank you again.. I am surprised about your wisdom.
❤️🙏
Thank you Bishop Barron
“Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them nor serve them”: second of the Ten Commandments. If we had this as the second commandment, we would need not have to split the 10th commandment into two parts. Now, if we already knew this, we are then bearing false witness. If we did not know this, we need to fix this.
