Clickbait title: Faulty 24-pin extension murders two mobos.
I guess I will be "that guy"… Why not use motherboard standoffs under the board instead of sitting all that exposed circuitry on the bottom on a coated cardboard box that could possibly fry another board? It's maybe not too likely, but why risk it? Especially since newbies watch your channel to learn stuff.
I will bring it with me so you can take it with you.
Glad you got it working! I've been wondering what was wrong with it.
OPA! Everybody Drink! It is good to be alive! Happy birthday Joe's New Computer.
Still bummed you didn't get to use it at ces, I would have been gutted if my laptop didn't work when I got to vegas. Wish I could bring a desktop to vegas for it but since I have to fly laptop only…anyways maybe ill run into you again next year!
I know it's not your style but that was kinda boring. No real deep dive in to the mobo being…. dead
That interview I did with you at LTX asking you about ESD was maybe badly timed lol
Glad to see it running again. How does it play Crysis?
1:00 into the video. My initial guess is that the power supply got flipped to 230V somehow. Now to find out that I'm wrong.
Edit: As suspected, I was wrong. No problem with being wrong as long as it is a learning opportunity.
Talking about elctric discharge.. still grabs everthing with bare hands …. nice one XD
I just did a build with those Lian Li cable extensions. they look great, but I hate them.
Did you reverse the polarity of the flux capacitors?
Is this video edited on this machine? 🤯
"It's a mid range job" 😂😂😂😂
That's the problem for those of us that do our builds for ourselves every few years, you got to have two of everything to swap out and test for bad components and if you maxed your budget on your build then you are stuck with shipping each part back and hoping the new one fixes the problem. That happen to me on my last build, it sat for month till I got to the RAM, Gigabyte had the RAM part number on their web sight as "usable" RAM for the Motherboard, it was NOT, all because of that I swapped out a good motherboard and CPU back to NewEgg.
nice cosmetic case but not practical, really? you got to putting shrouds to control the air flow..lol I already know I going to put a water cooler in so if it don't have a top mount it tits on a bull to me. Go buy a fish tank if you want something to look at. Who wants a 10k computer with a over heating problem
P.S. then Joe goes home and plays farmVille on Facebook…lol
Paul… the kind of guy who applies thermal paste with sandwich artist gloves.
Thanks, Paul. I have been waiting for the video! Great job!
still rockin the thumbscrew keyboard/mouse mat, highly recommended
great stuff :0)
So Happy you solved the problem!
This is exactly why smart people never buy GigaCRAP motherboards. Used to be a good brand…now nothing but garbage.
I highly doubt ESD killed your motherboard. Ill bet it was a dud from the factory, or bad QC.
That feeling of relief after you get confirmation that the insanely vital component you thought might have died still works is almost euphoric. Had my own such moment a while back when my pump died and I thought it was my gpu. Thankfully that got cleared up quick enough that I was able to save my pc. New pump, nice cool temps, 6 year old gpu still kicking….THANK…..GOD!
I thought Brian retired his channel?
Love the threadripper build but Strimmer cables look crap
omg finally 👏
Girth is quite important.!
I would take that motherboard and toss it as far as you can. The rest of the build is beautiful.
can you imagine going through all of this and you are not popular youtuber and companies will not have you backed up at all
I felt an empathetic sigh of relief for you, Paul, when I saw that AMI BIOS pop up (11:29) Congrats!
7:46 Product placement – GN mod mat. Nice.
Cool !
"Only" 5 or 10 minutes to boot – this memory training deal has kept me away from Ryzen 7000
I saw this title change, you can’t hide it😂
Hi Paul. When I saw you building the PC using that CIGABYTE MB box, I asked myself, "Why is he spending all that time, effort, and money and not using a real test/build bench?" When I use mine, it makes me feel so professional even though I sometimes don't know what the heck I'm doing.
do you use a UPS when doing BIOS updates? (or at least for videos)
also, have you talked to Wendel @ L1T to see if he's encountered TR7000 boards that have "just died"?
Thankfully it's only the motherboard 😊
19:05 Paul missed the opportunity to say "we're using deez nuts this time" throughout that whole clip.
32TB's of game storage
That CPU cooler sure looks pretty small for a thread ripper CPU.
The part list didn’t show that pci card you used for the 4 extra m.2 drives. What’s that called?
🎉 👌 😄 👍
10k just for a pc to edit on …. That’s madness
I was hoping you would do a video that circled back to this build. We were all left hanging in Las Vegas. Was wondering if you could have said more about the "electrostatic discharge" that killed the motherboard. How to avoid this, for example.
sure is a lot of innuendoes here…
Sorry but a new MB doesn't count as a fix to me. That's a rebuild. Also MB got killed but the CPU survived???
Speaking from entirely painful experience I once zorched a MB when I touched a capacitor with the graphics card I was trying to reseat.
My error was in forgetting to switch off the PSU at both its switch and the socket (I’m in the UK, we can do that).
The sudden acrid smell told me I’d messed up and the MB was indeed toast. Didn’t kill any other components though so lucked out there.
Doubt that’s the issue here but the fact it’s revision 1.2 would indicate something was bad enough they needed to act so it could simply be poor design or component selection at work.
Either way, next up think some air flow investigation could be useful…
I am glad you guys got that beast back breathing again!!
