Housing crisis hits landlords as 30 per cent ‘jump’ in selling affects rental market

Sky News host Peta Credlin says the housing crisis is hitting landlords as a 30 per cent “jump” is showing investment properties are being sold off over a rise in “taxes” affecting rental market availabilities.

“The housing crisis – we talk about this a lot, we know it is predominantly supply,” Ms Credlin said.

“What I don’t understand, the dance the left is doing, and Labor is doing it, the Greens are doing it at least overtly, Labor is doing it covertly about getting rid of negative gearing.

“We find because of all of the taxes now … hitting landlords, there has been a 30 per cent jump in landlords selling off their properties.

“They are saying, ‘just can’t make it work anymore, we’re walking away’, now this is a reduction in the available pool, and we have got record migration, and Labor’s Help to Buy scheme, of which then the Labor party owns 40 per cent of your home, God forbid, that is being held up in the parliament.”

  1. Young couples have to realise they have to start off with a doer upper and work their way up. Get in the market as cheap as they can so they aren’t paying all their repayments on interest. Paint, putty and get the yard looking nice. You can put $30,000 on the property in a year.

  2. All alaustralia should protest every weekend in every state for rent and immigration freeze and for early election. People protesting in Ireland 🇮🇪 and the government started to listen

  3. Housing crisis from Albo mass immigration, but you ain’t seen nothing yet if negative gearing goes. Keating back in the 1980s, negative gearing repealed, housing and rental crisis resulted, negative gearing reinstated two years later. We now look set to have a hosing crisis multiplied by another housing crisis, both homemade by Albo.

  4. This is a Labor created housing crisis – from the federal governments excessive immigration policy to the Victorian governments land tax attack landlords are selling their rental properties in droves. If you have no where to live and are paying higher rents – blame Albo and his Labor mates, not your landlord.

  5. Land tax is exorbitant, and then landlords have to comply with 5,342 requirements or they are at fault, tenants can take a sledgehammer to your property and insurance will say 'nah, that's just fair wear and tear', and then tradies jack up the price of repairs by 300% because it's assumed you're negatively geared, so can claim it on tax.
Why bother with the headache when you can bank the money and just claim interest

  6. If a property investor sells either a renter buys which reduces demand on rental or a new property investor buys in which case there is no actual impact. Negative gearing is a tax reduction vehicle and is effective for really high income earners not for average wage mum and dads. People who don't benefit from it and cant really afford to make a loss are conned into NG everyday and end up selling at a loss, that's there issue not ours.

  7. Over the long term you will make money out of the share market, so why give yourself a headache trying to conform to the Labor/Greens insanity. When 50% of the rental stocks are gone, what will the Labeens say then? Where will the theyems live then? Will they celebrate their cleverness while living on the streets of Newtown?
