Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak Review

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak reviewed by Tom Marks on PC, also available on Nintendo Switch.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is a relatively simple expansion, but that doesn’t mean its top notch new and returning monsters aren’t a whole lot of fun to fight. That said, Sunbreak isn’t nearly as substantial or surprising as Iceborne was for Monster Hunter World, lacking fresh ideas beyond clever AI followers that are restricted to single-player hunts, and even abandoning Rampage quests without really trying to fill the gap their absence has left.

  1. To those asking why we didn't talk more about the endgame, Capcom specifically restricted reviews from doing so. You can hear what we were able to say about it around 4:22. – Casey

  2. As if a review by IGN means anything. Their just made because it was too difficult for them most likely.

Sorry, but you won't find any "games journo" difficulty here. 🤣

  3. ngl, it just sounded like he pulled the number from thin air, compared it to a previous game's expansion WHICH HAS LONG BEEN FINISHED, MIND YOU, instead of comparing it to the base game its expanding upon. An expansion which has already fixed the uselessness that were the rampages, giving us a full endgame rather than let us wait until 3.0 to fight the real endgame boss, filling the void in with follower quests, AI hunters that provide great help on quests, more flexible gear, giving all the weapons more mobility options, AND the switch scroll feature that allowed us to swap switch skills mid hunt to change how we approach monsters? Either have someone with past Monster Hunter experience that didn't just start from World, or actually put more effort into giving a REAL review of the game.

  4. At least it isn't P2W. You mean to tell me this 40$ expansion that essentially improves the base game in every way doesn't score at least 2 points higher than Diablo Immortal, a game that you people had the nerve to legitimize with a review even though it's a lazy D3 port designed to rob people with impulse control? Pathetic.

  5. Eh, opinions are opinions. Many people say that base Rise was too easy but there will be people that say it’s not. Nothings objective, what matters is what you think.

  6. Nothing really compares to MHW.. I'm glad they tried to bring some new ideas to Switch but both the Switch and 3DS games were way too easy and quick to beat. Can't wait for a MHW2 to bring this game back to its pinnacle again.
