Government to deliver border funding package for May budget

Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil is set to deliver a major border security funding package in the May budget.

This comes after the arrival of more than 40 asylum seekers late last week.

Australian Border Force and Operation Sovereign Borders commanders say patrols have been reduced due to an ageing fleet and lack of staff.

Border Force data shows a 20 per cent decrease in aerial surveillance and a 12 per cent decrease in water patrols last year.

Members of the Opposition are hitting out at the Albanese government for its handling of Australia’s borders.
