I cannot imagine octopi being aliens considering nature dealt them a pretty sad existence. They're all pretty much orphaned from birth and maybe out of 50,000 barely a fraction of them will actually live. Not to mention the females once they give birth don't eat or do anything and pretty much die of starvation and weakness.
