Shadow Climate Change and Energy Minister Ted O’Brien says the government’s plan to enforce tougher emissions standards for vehicles in 2025 is an “absolute lie”.
In 2025, new cars sold in Australia will be subject to tougher standards to drive emissions down and accelerate the uptake of electric vehicles.
“When it comes to the government suggesting that it will drive costs down, they’re not talking about the full life cycle of the vehicle, they’re not talking about the purchasing price – maintenance costs, insurance costs, none of this have they talked about,” he told Sky News Australia.
“If they release the modelling, all of this should be in there.
“They cannot be believed.”

If electric cars are so cheap to run, then people would naturally buy them. You wouldnt need govt incentives. 😅

In what way are EVs an emissions efficiency? Volvo proved that an EV needs to travel between 60,000 and 90,000 MILES not km (depending on grid makeup) before it recoups the additional emissions from the production of an EV compared to an ICE vehicle. As a retired couple, we drive less than 10,000km per year so for us to switch to an EV would massively increase our effective emissions.

EV'S are more expensive, have low range capability, there is limited charging locations & charge time waiting is unviable re business efficiency, cost of battery replacement packs is $25-40k & no dealer wants to trade them. Yeah sure, they are heaps cheaper????

When EV's can go 1000-2000kms, charging infrastructure is everywhere, charge times are lowered & resale value is acceptable then yes they will be able to compete with ICE, and in time surpass ICE but that is many years away. Let EV grow organically, stop trying to force the issue when the technology still needs work.

The EV’s are not good what you been told it will be very expensive to have here is And example.
1. the Maintenance will be more Expensive then a regular car.
2. To replace battery of a electric car may costs up to about 60k
3. Every one especially the government should rethink about this electric cars if you drive along the road and there was something on the road and it hits under your card and done little damage under the car like the battery case under the car it will have to be replaced because it may have damage one of the battery cells and it may Explode or catch fire.
I have done some checking up on the Electric cars I say this because it may or can be dangerous to the people
