Labor just a 'fair-weather friend' to allies after Navy claims capable drone defence

Shadow Defence Minister Andrew Hastie has accused the Albanese government of being a “fair-weather friend” to the US after the Royal Australian Navy claimed to possess the necessary technology to combat Houthi drones.

“I think it shows, under this government, we are a fair weather friend,” Mr Hastie told Sky News Australia host Chris Kenny.

“Over the last 30 years, we have sent 57 Royal Australian naval vessels to the Middle East or waters around the Middle East to fight against piracy and terror.

“This is a government that has made a conscious decision and I admire the Chief of Navy and his courage in speaking up for the navy – he said they could have done it so this was a political decision.

“The Albanese government has still not explained why they took the weak decision.”

  1. Wait, you mean the Albanese government lied about our vessels not having adequate capability to defend themselves from drones! Surely our government wouldn’t lie to us and our allies.

  2. An Australian Company "Droneshield" supplies anti drone systems to the worlds military. it has provided anti drone systems to the ukraine. why doesn't the ADF buy Australian equipment, manufactured in Sydney. Albo is again lying.

  3. Albo thinks he is smarter then everyone else – even other world leaders. And this has been the haulmark of labor leaders now – since Whitlam. Where they talk to the U.S. – but do little else – in the form of building up Australia's minuscule military.

Labor somehow think – they can play world leaders like fools – and labor leaders are just so smart. Labor has not suffered a challenge with a real threat to Australia.

However labors self confidence it's own warped ideas. Are only one step away from disaster. If China moves in the pacific – they will do that to cut Australia off from the U.S. And with no navy – there's little Australia can do.

China could very easily – close down Australia's shipping lanes. With the nuclear submarines – bogged in labors backroom – of running media stories they are going to acquire them. Nothing is happening. There is no reason – you could not set a start date of 12 months away – to either lease – or start the build in the U.S. of these submarines.

And the U.S. only have to look after U.S. bases in Australia. Labor don't understand – they will get a huge lesson – of when push comes to shove. Just how wrong they are about the U.S. alliance and their so called friends in China.

Given if labor think they are so cool now. Trump if he wins – will remind labor – of how – low they sit in his opinion. Labors opinions of themselves – is nothing more – then complete lies.
