‘Green madness’: Peta Credlin blasts Chris Bowen over emissions ‘secrecy’

Sky News host Peta Credlin has criticised the latest “secrecy” and “green madness” from Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen.

The federal government revealed it will set minimum standards for manufacturers on fuel consumption and carbon emissions in vehicles they sell in Australia.

There are concerns the target of a 60 per cent emissions reduction in vehicles by 2030 may price popular four-by-fours and Utes out of the market.

The New Vehicle Efficiency Standard will only apply to new passenger and light commercial vehicles, not used or existing vehicles.

“Worst record in Australia’s history when he was immigration minister, the bloke who went after your investment property as treasurer and now wants to tell you what car you’re allowed to drive,” Ms Credlin said.

“Sorry, but in my book three strikes and surely you’re out?”

  1. Australia produces 1% of global emissions and if it went Net Zero tomorrow what effect would that have? ZERO!!! The only winner here is China who produces renewables with no emission restrictions as it a developing country as they have been determined by the UN. Does Australia have space program, the 2nd largest economy in the world, 2nd largest military in the world etc. WAKE UP!!

  2. If Chris Bowen could press a magic button and end all human induced climate change, in an instant, and without any economic damage …he wouldn't. Bowen loves climate change….he needs climate change. None of this is really about saving the environment for Chris Bowen

  3. There is accurate modeling Bowen just needs his hair colored black and he is First AU Honirable NK Leader With Nuke Car.
    No one uses power at night and there are no cars thats his plan and he will love it there with a solar panel on his flat hair do powering the whole country.

  4. Littleproud better wake up and oppose the Green madness, or he is toast. They are coming after farmers and where is the outrage? Mickey Mouse politicians who are way to comfortable in opposition aren't needed – they are the problem.
    Carbon dioxide is not a poison.

    Carbon dioxide comprises 0.04 percent of the atmosphere (i.e., 420 ppm). Nitrogen comprises 78 percent of the air, oxygen comprises 21 percent, and trace gases – including carbon dioxide, just 4 percent – and always has since it was possible to measure them. The atmosphere exists in a steady state due to feedback inhibitions on the rate of chemical re-actions affecting the atmosphere. There is no out-of-control climate change to be concerned about, and claims that there is are duplicitous. Plants need carbon dioxide to grow and the higher the level in the air the less water they need to grow. Plants also photosynthesize to split oxygen from carbon dioxide. This all stops at 160 ppm of carbon dioxide in the air. At 160 ppm carbon dioxide in the air all plants and animals will die. All plants will die because their stomata will remain fixed in the open position and all will dehydrate to death. On average, for every car-bon dioxide molecule that enters the stomata the plant loses 100 water molecules. Animals and humans will all choke to death at 160 ppm in the air because respiration (carbon dioxide is exchanged for oxygen in the alveoli of the lungs) ceases at 160 ppm of carbon dioxide in the air. This exchange of gases is governed by Dalton's Law of Partial Pressures (gases move from areas of higher concentration of that particular gas (partial pressure) to lower concentration of the same gas (partial pressure). When we exhale the carbon dioxide in our lungs is circa 40,000 ppm. The average school and university lecture room has about 7000 ppm or higher of carbon dioxide in the air with no ill effects providing ventilation is adequate. Carbon dioxide is therefore our friend. My understanding is that so far, on this issue, perhaps USD 20 Trillion (maybe more than 100 trillion by some counts) has been squandered to enrich the few, largely in the past two decades. Surely Y2K, another non problem, was merely a test run to gauge the credulousness of the population. Also, the willingness of some politicians to never waste a supposed crisis if there is a dollar to be made, and the cupidity of the few who always have an eye to the main chance?

    And as for Hydrogen

    Given the explosions they have had trying to fuel hydrogen powered cars in South Korea, and elsewhere, seems the safety issue is not a consideration for politicians. That issue can be placed amongst the least of the concerns about the choice of hydrogen cars.

    Using hydrogen poses great technical challenges i.e.

    – hydrogen must be stored in its liquid state at –253°C (20 K);

    – refrigeration takes a great deal of electrical energy to store hydrogen as a liquid;

    – unlike hydrogen, existing oil fuels can be stored at room temperature;

    – Hydrogen offers an energy content per weight which is 2.8 times higher than that of kerosene. Even so, the fuel volume is 4 times greater than that of kerosene. (Researchgate: Hydrogen vs Kerosene as aircraft fuel). Hence, the energy per unit volume of oil derived fuels is far higher and more practical from volume, room temperature and pressures, cost, and safety standpoints, than hydrogen. Think of this in terms of the size of fuel tanks for aircraft and road transport vehicles. The question of safety is an entirely separate issue.

    – the tiny size of the H2 molecules makes containment difficult. Leaks can be dangerous (i.e., of the Hindenburg Zeppelin disaster variety). Moreover, if hydrogen is contained in a metal tank it will eventually cause the tank to crystallize – and fracture under the pressure;

    Hence, hydrogen is uneconomic as a replacement for liquid fuels already in use. Therefore, proponents can't be serious about this option, because it is totally impractical. Various politicians whose main ability is making billions in taxpayers funds disappear, voice the same impractical notions. If Ministers do not know the detractions of hydrogen, they are either unbriefed, or have been paid to promote tax-payer subsidies (probably in the multi-billion) for their own purposes.

  5. What a joke. If farmers could get by in microcars or EVs they would have been doing it for years. How much wheat can you carry in a Tesla or a Corolla? The EVs, that this fool is trying to push on us, create more pollution before they are sold than many ICE car's will create in their lifetime. Not to mention that nobody wants a second hand EV so long before they recover the extra pollution they will be scrapped to get a new filthy EV, while the ICE car keeps rolling along with a new owner

  6. Co2 is not the enemy … pushing a global agenda to gain central control is ….we need to be tackling pollution as the No 1 env issue ….The idea that co2 causes global warming is extremely simplistic and therefore completely misleading co2 levels are at one of the lowest levels in recorded history ….it is only marginally above the minimum level to sustain vegetation .. the real facts are not being told … your being lied to just like many other things don’t be naive

  7. Why doesn’t Chris Bowen get off his backside and have a look what is going on around the world right now in the US EVs are actually falling no one is buying them and the ones that to happen I getting rid of them and the dealerships also cannot sell the and this clown wants us to drive something that basically Australian people do not want to drive
