Was surprised that my install of Arcade Archives Darius, a somewhat old Japan-only release on PS4, just got updated to a new version! Version 1.02 has added English language (and button conventions) to the game menus!
This coincides with the 10/6/2022 release of Arcade Archives Darius on Switch for both Japan and English regions/languages/whatever. The game list on hamster.co.jp has updated–as it does usually every Thursday–with the new game being Darius in the Switch lists…but no game yet updated for this week on the PS4 game lists!
Were they planning on a North American release for Darius on PS4 this week? Or did they just update the Japanese version with English language support because they’d had to implement it for the Switch version anyway? Is there going to be any PS4 Arcade Archives release this week?
Starting to look like the answer to that is No. Well, now might be as good a time as any to get Arcade Archives Darius from the Japanese PS Store if you are able to make a Japanese PSN account and fund it. That’s what I did long ago, and once I downloaded it to my US PS4 using my JP account, I can play it on my regular US PSN account.
So anyway this video is just me going through the new English menus in Arcade Archives Darius (JP release) on PS4; I finally found the menu that lets you simulate the slightly out-of-alignment triple screens you’d frequently encounter on an actual arcade cab! (I don’t THINK you can do that in the more recent, US PS4-released version of Darius in M2’s Darius Cozmic Collection Arcade; as I endeavored to show in a couple previous videos, both play equally well, but Arcade Archives Darius has more robust sound reproduction and options.)
I couldn’t figure out how to use the optional sound demo display widget!

(Checks Hamster’s Arcade Archives PS4 game release list again…) Yeah, man, still no release for PS4 this week. I guess maybe it was just English support added to Darius (JP-only release) since they had to do it for this week’s Switch release anyway.
Ah and they haven’t been tweeting about any new game release for PS4 on their (Japanese) Twitter account; they just mentioned the PS4 Darius version update in a few tweets mostly about the Switch release. So yeah I guess JP Darius getting English is it for PS4 Arcade Archives this week! (Unlike on PS4, M2 beat Hamster to Switch with their Cozmic Darius, so I wonder if Hamster have fairly low expectations at this point for Switch sales of Arcade Archives Darius.)
